BACK GROUND INFORMATION
Tusome foundation is an initiative of Mutongu, Ikalyoni Nthunguni Association (MINA) which is a non-political entity and was founded back in 1978 under the leadership of Mr James M Ndwiwa. It was officially recognized by the registrar of Associations in Kenya on 6th Dec 1978. The Association has its main office based in Nairobi kenya were most of its activities are conducted from. To devolve its services, in early 90’s the management was able to establish three branches namely Mutongu, Ikalyoni and Nthunguni but Mutongu later was closed down.
The founders of the organization laid down a very strong foundation and were very much determined to improve the living standards of its members and they were interested in the objectives listed below;
- To unite all people from Mutongu, Ikalyoni and Nthunguni by recruiting them as members of the Association.
- To develop the social welfare of the area and uplift the standards of living of the people as outlined here under;
- To support, improve and promote education in the area.
- To construct and maintain passable village roads for easy access to homesteads.
- To educate people of the area on water, soil and environmental conservation.
- To encourage the concept of self-help and team spirit in; · Ensuring enough family food security. · Catering for public health needs. · Encouraging domestic savings and investments. · Poverty reduction and/or eradication.
In the year 2011, the association revised its constitution and added two more objectives as outlined here under,
- To Create awareness on HIV/AIDS and educate people on Drug Abuse.
- To promote and uphold gender consideration in management of public affairs within the Association.
THE BIRTH OF TUSOME FOUNDATION
During the year 2016 academic awareness held at Nduu primary school, Hon Sen Mutula Kilonzo who was the chief guest for the event challenged the management of MINA and encouraged them to come up with a foundation which will take care of the needs of less fortunate pupils after awarding and warranty their dreams accomplishment. The challenge was taken positively hence the long journey for the formation of TUSOME FOUNDATION started way back in 2017.Through the assistance of our able senator we managed to get TUSOME FOUNDATION registered by the Non Governmental Oganizaton of Kenya and issued with a certificate on 30th January.2019.

FOUNDATION LAUNCH
On 11th February.2020 Tusome Foundation in life history witnessed its official launch,the opening of its offices at Ikalyoni Resource centre ,Ikalyoni sub-location, Kaiti Constituency, Makueni County .During the occasion, tree planting was undertaken and 19 pupils and 2 Students were awarded for excellent academic performance for the year ended 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of secondary Education (KCSE) results respectively.
